SHANE BOVEY - OUR NEW OPERATIONS MANAGER
We have a few additions to the J&K Team over the next few weeks, and we are proud to introduce the first new recruit, Shane Bovey!
Hi! Who are you and what is your role at J&K?
I'm Shane Bovey, and I am the Operations Manager at J&K Aquatics.
What previous experience do you have in operations?
My primary experience was from my last role, which was After sales and Operations Director for a prominent car dealer group in Plymouth. A split role between group aftersales management, and operations management across the group. There I covered many aspects of troubleshooting and compliance responsibility across HR, H&S, GDPR, IT, CCTV, Alarm systems etc. Experience from all my previous roles has also contributed to varying degrees, even way back to my first job in the 90’s within a high street retail environment.
What is your day to day like?
My main duties will be helping and supporting the Warehouse & Logistics, Fish house and Retail Store managers, and their teams with their day-to-day challenges. Additionally, I'll support the operational aspects such as the IT, Health & Safety, HR, and compliance disciplines.
What are you most looking forward to?
Being operational in a large variety of tasks and responsibilities across the business. Troubleshooting problems and helping others resolve theirs, and improve the way things are done, increasing performance and efficiencies as a result. In previous roles I have become a go-to person for advice and operational problem solving, and I am hoping to repeat that here with J&K as my knowledge and experience builds.

What pets do you have?
I have been a hobbyist fishkeeper for nearly forty years. My first fish were a pair of green swordtails, and by the time I got home from the shop the female had given birth in the bag. From that point on I was hooked! I have bred many different species over the years, and when at school I used to sell them to my school friends’ parents. At one point I had eleven tanks set up. I grew up with dogs, my parents kept and showed champion Afghan hound show dogs. We have two cats at home. I am more of a dog person than a cat person though!
What’s something you do in your spare time?
The fishkeeping hobby takes a large part of my spare time, though I enjoy playing snooker and pool regularly. I also watch a lot of Sport such as football and motor sport. Having both the coast and Dartmoor on your doorstep is also a wonderful way to relax when you want some downtime.
